Hello Sir, We have to choose between Iit kanpur cse vs iit Madras AI and data analytics. We are from Chennai and we prefer iit Madras. As AIDA is more specialized compared to CSE, what will be the future prospects for students graduating in 2030. Please share your opinion

, I would generally place
IIT Kanpur CSE slightly ahead
for most students.
Why?
• Broader degree
- CSE gives you access to AI/ML, systems, cybersecurity, quant, software engineering, research, startups, and higher studies.
- You can specialize in AI later, but you're not locked into it from day one.
• Recruiter perception
- CSE remains the most recognized and sought-after branch across the industry.
- Many top companies recruit directly for CSE roles regardless of specialization.
• Flexibility
- If AI trends evolve or your interests change, CSE provides more room to pivot.
That said, IIT Madras AIDA is not a downgrade . In fact, if:
- You are genuinely passionate about AI/ML and data science,
- You prefer IIT Madras's academic culture,
- You want to be in Chennai,
then AIDA is an excellent choice and will likely have outstanding placements by 2030.
My ranking would be:
- IIT Kanpur CSE
- IIT Madras AIDA
The gap is not large. It's more about breadth vs specialization .
For a student unsure of their exact future niche, IIT Kanpur CSE is usually the safer and more versatile option. For someone already convinced they want to build a career around AI, ML, and data science, IIT Madras AIDA is a very compelling choice.
