Start your preparation with NCERT books and do it properly to make your basics strong and to make your concepts clear then you can go for some other competitive books also such as -:

AMU doesn't prescribe any particular books for preparing for AMUEEE 2018. That being said, NCERT books are very reliable study material as they describe all the concept in clear terms and also there are sufficient problems and illustrations to edify learning and sharpen problem solving skills.

Once you are done with NCERT books, you can move onto to advanced books like:

Physics :

Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov

Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick & Walker

Chemistry :

Organic Chemistry by Morrison & Boyd

Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee

Mathematics :

Higher Algebra by Hall & Knight

Problems in Calculus of One Variable by I.A. Maron

Co-ordinate Geometry by S. L. Loney

As for which topics are important, the question pattern changes every year, so it is adviasable not to neglect any section.
