The MAAIE and MASLM degrees expand NIEPA's academic offerings for future-ready education, ethical governance, technology-enabled learning and institutional leadership aligned with Viksit Bharat@2047

The MAAIE focuses on preparing teachers, policymakers, and technology experts to integrate the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of education, while the MASLM is designed to equip serving and aspiring education administrators in school leadership and management. Together with the already established M.A. in Education and Development (MAED) PG programme, the two new programmes mark an important step in expanding NIEPA’s academic offerings.

This year marks the launch of two of NIEPA’s important new postgraduate programmes in the fields of educational leadership, management and emerging technology.

Prof. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor, NIEPA, explained, “The first is the Master of Arts in School Leadership and Management (MASLM), which has been designed to equip those working in school leadership and management, as well as future education administrators, with the necessary skills. The second is the Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence in Education (MAAIE), which focuses on preparing teachers, policymakers and technology experts for the future, keeping in view the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the education sector. Together with the institution’s existing M.A. in Education and Development (MAED) programme, these two programmes represent an important step towards expanding NIEPA’s academic curriculum in line with the spirit of the National Education Policy 2020.”

Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey, Chancellor, NIEPA, said, “As India advances towards Viksit Bharat@2047, higher education institutions must become centres of knowledge, innovation and responsible leadership. NIEPA’s work in educational planning, policy research and capacity building is vital to strengthening institutions and enabling evidence-based decision-making across the education system.”

NIEPA also outlined a few other initiatives: the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre conducted 30 programmes for 4,319 teachers, while a nationwide training programme is being run for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) wardens.

Its international programmes for education administrators have drawn participants from more than 32 countries, and the institute has also set up a dedicated Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Centre.

Shri Prafulla Ketkar, Editor, Organiser, Bharat Prakashan, had delivered the keynote address on NIEPA’s 20th Foundation Day on the theme 'Role of Higher Education Institutions in Making Viksit Bharat@2047'.

With nearly 65% of India's population under 35 and a national target of 50% Gross Enrolment Ratio by 2035, NIEPA is working to build and strengthen the governance capacity required for a future-ready education system. In 2025-26, NIEPA conducted 128 national and international programmes, reaching 7,634 participants, and continued to support evidence-based educational planning through research, training and professional engagement.
