Chatbots that write code, tools that turn a sentence into an image, assistants that summarise long reports. Generative AI powers all of it, and companies want people who can build it. If you already hold a bachelor’s degree, MCA in Generative AI is a newer way in. Here are the colleges, fees, eligibility, syllabus, salary and career scope, starting with the basics of the MCA degree.

It is a two-year postgraduate degree in computer applications that focuses on AI that creates text, images, code and audio. In an MCA Generative AI course, you learn how models like GANs and VAEs create new content, and you also get a solid grounding in machine learning and deep learning. Graduates prepare for roles like generative model engineer and AI application developer.

Most MCA courses don’t need a computer science degree, but Maths usually matters. Under the MAH MCA CET rules, you need a three-year graduation with Maths at graduation or 10+2 level and at least 50 per cent marks.
BCA, BSc (CS/IT) and BTech graduates can apply almost everywhere.
BCom and BA graduates can apply if they studied Maths.
NIMCET asks for 60 per cent with Maths or Stats. See the NIMCET eligibility criteria.

Only a few colleges offer this exact specialisation and most of them are private. These are the total MCA Generative AI course fees for two years.
College | Course | Seats | Total Fees |
|---|---|---|---|
MCA Generative AI | 30 | Rs. 2.90 Lakhs | |
MCA with Generative AI | 240 | Rs. 3.50 Lakhs | |

On a tighter budget, look at MCA in AI courses. Vivekananda Global University lists Rs. 2.40 lakh, and a government college in Sikar lists Rs. 1.95 lakh in the Rajasthan MCA AI list. Remember that these figures are tuition only, so ask for hostel and other charges in writing.
Subjects vary, so read each college’s curriculum. A typical plan looks like this:
Semester | What You Study |
|---|---|
1 | Python, data structures, maths for AI, databases |
2 | Machine learning, statistics, software engineering |
3 | Deep learning, NLP, large language models, prompt engineering |
4 | Generative models (GANs, VAEs), AI ethics, major project or internship |
Graduates work in IT services, startups, banks and e-commerce. Common roles include generative AI engineer, machine learning engineer, AI engineer, NLP engineer and data scientist. Later, you can move into team lead roles, or study for a PhD if you prefer research.
Pay depends on your skills, projects and employer. The fresher pay in generative AI roles is about Rs. 4 to 8 lakh a year. The larger averages below are for people with years of experience, so don’t expect them in your first job.
Role | Average Salary (per year) |
|---|---|
Fresher, generative AI roles | Rs. 4 to 8 lakh |
AI engineer (experienced) | Rs. 12.0 lakh |
Data scientist (experienced) | Rs. 14.4 lakh |
ML engineer (experienced) | Rs. 15.4 lakh |
Before You Pay the Fee:
Does the curriculum cover LLMs, prompt engineering and fine-tuning?
Will you get GPU or cloud access?
Do students build real projects like chatbots?
Can the college show last year’s real placement numbers?
If the college only added the word “generative” to an old syllabus, a regular MCA plus self-study is better value. If you hold a BTech, an MTech in AI may suit you better. For other routes, read about generative AI courses after 12th and BTech CSE with Generative AI.
MCA in Generative AI is a good way for graduates, including non-IT ones, to enter a fast-growing area of tech. The specialisation is new, so quality varies. Compare syllabus, labs and placements, and start learning Python and small AI projects on your own right away.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes, as long as you studied Maths at 10+2 or in graduation. Many colleges also run a bridge course for non-IT students.
No. It’s mainly for NITs and a few other institutes. Private universities often use their own tests or merit.
Most colleges fall between Rs. 2.9 and 5 lakh for the full course. That’s tuition only, so budget a bit more for hostel and other costs.
It depends on your goal. Generative AI is narrower, while AI and ML gives you more colleges and wider job choices.
A fresher in a generative AI job can usually expect around Rs. 4 to 8 lakh a year. Your city and your skills decide where in that range you land.

Hey there,
Yes. With a Karnataka PGCET MCA rank of 8,504, you should prepare a long option-entry list rather than choosing only the top colleges.
For Bangalore, a practical preference order could include:
