NIT Silchar is conducting an online FDP on Next Generation CMOS-MEMS and VLSI from Jul 25 to Aug 3, 2025.
It's somewhere in between good and bad , I mean the internet speed is very slow and the buildings are quite old as well but the library is quite great for study purposes. In conclusion it's okayish for a student
We have classes from 8 am to 6 pm almost everyday which is very annoying. Since we do not get enough time for other activities and the system is very rigid with it's rules so ir becomes very difficult for student to survive this Institute academically.
Placement in my branch is quite good, the placement percentage is also quite good for my branch I.e. electronics and instrumentation engineering branch. A lot of companies come to our institution. In conclusion great placement.
Great experience as student except for academic point of view.
The buildings and infrastructures are quite good, first year rooms are double bedded rooms with enough space for two people. Food sometimes get very bad but that is a case with every hostel, i guess. Overall i would say it is good.
I am studying mechanical engineering in this college, most of the teachers help students in many ways but few are like, they just don't care about you, they will come, take classes and they don't know you.
Placement is quite good in here, in comparison to many nit, i would say it is very very good. My branch mechanical's average placement package is 9.8 lacs ctc per annum. If you are talking about cs(computer science), average is around 18 lpa (ctc) and highest package was 80 lpa, which is very high in comparison any nit . Almost everybody gets placed except those pursuing higher education and some student who like never attends classes.
Nit Silchar is a government college, you may already know it, so the fees is quite low. Ok so let me clarify about fee structure in here. For students with family income: (higher than 5 lpa)- around 90000 per semester (in first semester , you have to pay little extra fee, most of that is refundable which you will be returned to after your graduation, this is for everybody.). if family income is between 1 to 5 lpa then around 31000 per semester. for family income less than 1 lpa it is 8000 lpa.
Campus is very beautiful, you can be sure that you will enjoy your college life here, there are around 25 lakes in here, but don't gets your hope high, lake are kind of dirty and you are not allowed to enter into them. But the vibe here is very good and you will enjoy roaming around the campus. and yeah, there is a garden attached to our campus ,Tip- Visit the tea garden as earlier in the morning.
Overall this college is quite good , it is also increasing the ladder of NIRF ranking every year.I would recommend you come to this college if want like combo of everything, you will have fun in here, you will get a good plament (of course you will have to study for that).
NIT Silchar offers great infrastructure and facilities. There are 10 boys hostel and 3 girls hostel(One more was proposed to be built). The newer hostels are good and clean but the older ones need some work. The food quality is good except for 1st year hostels(They are trying to improve now). Library is well equipped and is the best structure in NIT Silchar.
Most faculty are good what they teach and care about the students. You will meet some wonderful faculty here supporting you in extracurricular. The Academic work load here is a bit large, but so is the education quality.
The average placement package this year was 14.39 LPA with highest being 80+ LPA from CSA. The overall placement percentage is about 89 percent. Placement of branches like Mechanical and Civil has also been very appealing this year.
The 4 year course here is definitely value for money compared many other NITs, with one of the lowest hostel fees.
You will really enjoy the campus life here. In summer, you might sometime regret but the solution is there in library. The green and blue view of the campus. Student life here is pretty enjoyable with so many fests and events to attend.
There are 10 boys hostel and 3 girls hostel(one girls hostel is proposed to be built by 2024).The 1st year mess food is not that good , it improves from second year onwards. There WiFi only in libraries and department buildings.Living spaces are clean but the food is average.
Current academic calendar for 1st years is over worked but for others it is relaxed. The institute provides world class students every year. Most faculty are well versed in their fields but there are few who might sometimes be nuisance.
Compared to many NITs the placement here is pretty good with an overall placement percentage of 89%. The highest package this year has been recorded to be 80+ LPA. Average package is still somewhat moderate at 14.39 LPA.
The course costs approx ₹1.8L per year. But scholarships are provided according to income . The course is value for money if you are getting scholarships or your income is less than 1L.
The College has 10 boys hostel and 3 girls hostel. Every hostel has its own mess. Mess food has variety and hygiene is maintained. Rooms are single, double and triple seater with LAN connection to each student. Internet is quite good with over 15Mbps of speed in hostels and even faster in library and labs. Placement of the college is exceptional and every year it's improving. Current year placement drive is on going and the highest CTC offered till now is 80LPA and lowest is 10LPA. Average CTC offered is nearly 20LPA. Every year more then 90% students got placed the rest go for higher studies. All the reputed companies visit the campus every year.
The tution fee depends on from which category you belong. For a general category students total fee (including academic fees + hostel fees + mess fees + other fees ) for 1 year (2 semesters) is nearly 1.5 lakhs rupees. But it worth is. And there are ample amount of scholarships also for economically week students.
Campus life is awsome. There are so many clubs and societies, so you can join as per your interest. So many events are organised throught the year. The annual technical fest of the college is known as TECNOESIS and it is the largest technical fest in the entire North East, it is a 4 day long event student from all over India come to participate. The annual cultural fest is known as INCANDESCENCE, it is also a 4 day long event. And the cumpus is huge(625 acres) with so many lakes and greenary.

First year is common semester for all the departments where everyone needs to study the same course and at the end of the year the top scoring students get a chance to change their branch if they want. We have regular classes as well as Tutorial classes for problem-solving .The teachers are interactive as well as supportive and the teaching method is appropriate for most of the teachers. There are few teachers who are a little ignorant , but overall the environment is very friendly..
The placement scenario is very good . The training and placement cell is responsible for the bringing in more companies. Most of the students are placed in IT companies but for core companies competition is very high. In CSE almost 100% of students get placement with an average package of 10LPA.

Placements are very good every year, but it is different for masters and bachelors. Top companies visit here every year. There is a separate TnP team, which helps you in your placement information. It all depends on your potential overall. Our batch got full Internship in HR, Marketing and Finance. And almost 80% placements done from the senior batch.

I love my NIT, You can go forward with NIT without a second thought.

You have good chances for:
ECE, EE, Mechanical, Civil (under Home State quota)
CSE might be difficult in General category, but easier if you're OBC/SC/ST

Hello there,
With
79.75 percentile (OBC-NCL)
in JEE Mains, getting
NIT Silchar
is difficult for most branches under the
Other State
quota. However, if you are from
Assam (Home State)
, you may have a chance in lower-demand branches like
Mechanical or Civil Engineering
, especially in
CSAB special rounds
. Admission to top branches like CSE is unlikely.
I would recommend you to use
