Salary Type | Approx. Package (per year) |
|---|---|
Starting salary (fresher) | Rs. 3.5 LPA to Rs. 6 LPA |
Average package | Rs. 6 LPA to Rs. 8 LPA |
Good packages (top private and deemed universities) | Rs. 9 LPA to Rs. 15 LPA |
Highest CTC (a few top offers) | Rs. 20 LPA to Rs. 30+ LPA |
Most freshers start between Rs. 3.5 LPA and Rs. 6 LPA.
What you earn in your first job depends on a few things:
Your College: Recruiters visit well-known universities more often, and that usually means better offers.
Your Skills: Python, SQL, machine learning and a BI tool like Power BI or Tableau make a real difference.
Your Projects and Internships: Hiring managers often care more about what you have built than what marks you scored.
Your City: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi NCR usually pay more.
The average package after MSc Data Science is roughly Rs. 6 LPA to Rs. 8 LPA. After a couple of years of experience on the job, salaries often go beyond Rs. 10 LPA. Here is roughly how pay grows with experience (these are estimates, not fixed numbers):
Experience | Pay (approx.) |
|---|---|
Fresher to 2 years | Rs. 4 to 8 LPA |
3 to 5 years | Rs. 8 to 15 LPA |
6 to 10 years | Rs. 15 to 30 LPA |
10 years and above | Rs. 30 LPA+, mostly for team leads and managers |
The highest CTC after MSc Data Science can go up to Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 LPA or above. These offers usually go to a few students with strong coding, internships and problem-solving skills. Product companies, analytics firms and global tech companies pay the most. Don’t treat the highest CTC as the normal outcome, because the average package is a safer number to plan around.
Job Role | Average Salary (per year) |
|---|---|
Data Analyst | Rs. 4 to Rs. 8 LPA |
Business Analyst | Rs. 5 to Rs. 9 LPA |
Data Scientist | Rs. 8 to Rs. 18 LPA |

Maths, statistics or calculus in your earlier studies (some colleges make this compulsory)
Admission is mostly merit-based, though some universities, like Shoolini, hold their own entrance test. If you’re still in the undergraduate stage, check BSc Data Science to see how the degree is structured. Several colleges also offer it, such as MIT Arts, Commerce and Science College, Pune.
Learn Python, SQL, statistics and machine learning well.
Build 3 to 4 real projects and put them on GitHub.
Do at least one internship.
Learn a BI tool like Power BI or Tableau.
Pick up cloud basics (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
Practice case studies and interview questions early.
Yes, but only if you are ready to put in the work on skills. The starting salary is decent, and growth after 3 to 5 years can be strong. The MSc Data Science degree works best when you pair it with projects and practical tools. A degree alone won’t get you the top packages.
The MSc Data Science salary in India starts around Rs. 3.5-6 LPA, the average package is around Rs. 6-8 LPA and a highest CTC that can cross Rs. 20 LPA for top performers. Pick a college that suits your budget, and spend your two years building skills that companies actually use. Before you apply, check the fees and eligibility on each college page. Then look through the colleges listed above and shortlist the ones that fit you best.
