Every company now has data. Sales numbers, app clicks, customer feedback, you name it. What many of them don’t have is enough people who can read that data and explain what it means. That gap is why BSc Data Analytics has become one of the more popular science degrees after Class 12.
This Story also Contains
BSc Data Analytics is an undergraduate degree where you learn to collect, clean and study data, then turn it into useful reports. It sits close to BSc Data Science, but the focus is more on analysis and business use than on building complex AI models.
Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
Duration | 3 years (some colleges offer a 4-year Honours route) |
Eligibility | Class 12, usually with Maths |
Admission | Merit, college entrance tests, some CUET scores |
Total fees | About Rs. 1.5 to 7 lakh |
Level | Undergraduate BSc degree |
The rules change a little from college to college. These are the common ones.
Class 12 pass from a recognised board, and Maths is required at most colleges
About 50 per cent marks in aggregate
At some colleges, Physics or Computer Science along with Maths
A few universities take students from any stream
For example, ICFAI Tech in Hyderabad asks for 50 per cent with Maths and Physics, while Gurugram University asks for 50 per cent with Maths, Stats, CS or IT. Read the page of your chosen college before you apply.
Most colleges follow a simple process.
Check eligibility on the college page.
Fill the application form online.
Write the college’s entrance test, or send your Class 12 marks if admission is on merit.
Join the counselling or interview round if there is one.
Pay the fees to confirm your seat.
Some universities have their own tests. ICFAI Tech uses its ATIT test, for instance. Others accept CUET UG scores, so keep an eye on each college’s notice.
Fees vary a lot, from under Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh. These are totals for the full course.
College | Course | Total Fees |
|---|---|---|
BSc Statistics and Data Analytics | Rs. 1.59 Lakhs | |
BSc CS (Data Analytics) | Rs. 2.19 Lakhs | |
BSc AI and Data Analytics | Rs. 2.40 Lakhs | |
BSc Data Analytics | Rs. 3.10 Lakhs | |
BSc Data Analytics | Rs. 4.66 Lakhs | |
BSc Data Analytics (4 years) | Rs. 5.40 Lakhs | |
BSc Data Science and Analytics (Hons) | Rs. 7.00 Lakhs |
Here’s a quick way to think about the cost.
Under Rs. 2.5 lakh gets you mostly government-aided or smaller private colleges.
Rs. 3 to 5 lakh is the usual range for good private universities.
Above Rs. 5 lakh is mostly four-year Honours courses at bigger private names.
A higher fee doesn’t always mean better teaching. Look at labs, faculty and where past students got jobs before you pay.
The first year builds the base. Later years bring in the practical tools.
Year 1:
Mathematics and statistics
Programming basics in Python
Computer fundamentals and Excel
Communication skills
Years 2 and 3:
Databases and SQL
Data mining and data visualisation, using tools like Tableau or Power BI
Big data analytics and digital analytics
Machine learning basics
Business analytics and a final project
Some colleges add AI and deep learning, as Gurugram University does in its AI and data analytics course. Always check the syllabus of the exact college you plan to join, because the subjects shift from place to place.
These three often confuse students.
If you like working with numbers and reports, BSc Data Analytics is the closer fit, since most of it is about reading data and explaining what it shows.
BSc Data Science goes a step further into machine learning and building models.
BCA is more about software and app development, with less focus on statistics.
If you’re torn, look at the first-year subjects of each. The one that excites you more is usually the right pick.
After the degree, most graduates start as data analysts, business analysts, reporting analysts or MIS executives. Banks, retail, healthcare, telecom and IT firms all hire for these roles. With a few years of experience and more study, you can move toward data scientist jobs.
Many students also go for higher studies. An MSc in data science or statistics, or an MCA, is a common next step and usually helps pay grow faster.
Starting salaries depend on your skills, projects and city, so there’s no single number to promise. A strong portfolio of small projects often counts for more than the college name.
Yes, if you enjoy maths and are ready to learn tools like Python and SQL. It is a good choice if you want a data career without a four-year engineering degree. It is less suited if you hate statistics, since a good part of the course depends on it.
BSc Data Analytics is a practical, fairly affordable way into the data field. Pick a college that gives you real tool practice, not just theory. Compare two or three options on fees, syllabus and placements, and start learning Python and SQL on your own from the first year. Those habits, more than anything else, will decide how your career begins.
