What is Industrial and Production Engineering

Industrial and production engineering is a relatively new course in India. It focuses on the concept of developing, manufacturing, implementing, improving, implementing and evaluating the integrated system of people, money, information, equipment, energy and the industrial process as a whole. It also involves the study of designing and manufacturing processes for a product and also planning, measuring and controlling all the economic and productive activities within an organization. It has been fairly popular among Indian students all over the country. Industrial and production engineering can be studied through various courses such as B.Tech in industrial and production engineering and M.Tech in industrial and production engineering. B.Tech in industrial and production engineering is an undergraduate course which spans over 4 years and is divided into 8 semesters. After completing their B.Tech degree, graduates can pursue M.Tech in industrial and production engineering which is a 2 year old postgraduate course. Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Industrial and Production Engineering

Eligibility criteria for admission in B.Tech -

  • Applicants are required to pass class 10+2 with science stream or it corresponding from any recognized board in India

  • Applicants need to have 50% marks or more in class 10+2 

  • Reserved categories within India are given relaxation upto 5%

  • The four subjects in the qualifying examination must be Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and extra subjects of the students' choice.


Eligibility criteria for admission in M.Tech -

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a minimum 50% aggregate

  • Applicants need to qualify an entrance examination known as GATE to get admission in IIT and other prestigious colleges


Admission Criteria - Industrial and Production Engineering 

For B.Tech - To get admission in top institutes within India that offer B.Tech in industrial and production engineering. Candidates need to qualify their respective entrance exam (JEE Main, JEE Advanced and BITSAT). Some institutes also admit students through direct admission. 


For M.Tech - To get admission in M.Tech industrial and production engineering course. Candidates need to pass an entrance exam known as GATE. Candidates are also required to have a B.Tech degree with a minimum aggregate of 50%.

Please Suggest If I Should Take Industrial And Production Engineering As I am Weak in Physics And Chemistry?

Hello, industrial and production engineering more focus on mechanical and manufacturing process and maths is must as problems involved more focus on mathematical calculation.
Physics is also a good and must subject for this branch.

Also it doesn't mean that you can't take if you are weak in chemistry and physics.

I would recommend you to strong your subjects by remembering chemistry facts , chemical reactions, mechanism and solve physics problems and understand derivations.

Make short notes and revise formulas and solve previous years questions this should help you.

I am very weak in physics and chemistry should i take INDUSTRIAL AND PRODUCTION engineering(I have qualified upsee with a good rank)

Hello, it doesn't mean that you can't be good in other things if you are weak in chemistry , physics.

If you are interested in industrial and production engineering then your maths should be very good and even if you have any other branch maths is must.

But you can work hard on your subjects.
Try to give more time to your weak subjects.
Make short notes and formulas.
Revise by giving time to each topic.
Solve previous years questions.
This things should help you.

Industrial/Production Engineering is one of the most student friendly branches and has a very structured curriculum. Of course you need to be good in Mathematics, as you deal with courses like Optimization , Costing and Accounting and Operations Research, as well as many other Core Courses like Production Control, Siz Sigma, Supply Chain as well as Technology subjects like Analytics. The branch is such tha it gives you a lot of time to learn news skills and technologies and master them.

Ideally having courses like Operations and Quality Management, it also gives you a good insight into how a MBA School Curriculum looks like. No wonder Production Engineers are so good Business Managers and Data Scientists. After B.Tech in Production you could perhaps be a Business Analyst at MnCs like Amazon, American Express or MuSigma , or perhaps you might be an Operations Manager at some conglomerate like ITC, Reliance or Unilever.
