Phones that recognise your face. Cars that read road signs. Smartwatches that spot an irregular heartbeat. All of these run on two things: electronics to sense the world, and AI to make sense of it. BTech ECE with AI and ML is the degree that teaches you both.

This article covers colleges, fees, eligibility, admission, syllabus, scope and salary for BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering with AI and ML.
This is a four-year engineering degree. You study regular BTech ECE subjects such as circuits and communication systems, and then add machine learning and deep learning on top. Colleges give it different names, like “ECE (AI and ML)” or “ECE with specialisation in AI and ML”, but the idea is the same.
Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
Degree | BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering |
Specialisation | Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning |
Duration | 4 years (3 years for lateral entry) |
Eligibility | Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths |
Admission | JEE Main, university tests or merit |
Total fees | About Rs. 5 to 13 lakh |
The rules are close to any other BTech course.
Pass Class 12 with Physics and Maths. Most colleges also ask for Chemistry, though some accept Computer Science or another approved subject in its place.
Score around 50 to 60 per cent in aggregate. Christ University, for example, asks for 50 per cent in PCM and in Maths.
Diploma holders can join the second year through lateral entry. DES Pune University asks for at least 45 per cent marks in a diploma.
Admission depends on the college. These are the common routes.
Write JEE Main, which colleges like Netaji Subhas University of Technology (East Campus) and MIT-WPU list as their entry exam.
Check where your rank can take you with the JEE Main college predictor.
Apply through counselling, or directly to private universities that run their own tests.
Submit documents and pay the fees to confirm your seat.
The list below covers popular choices. Fees are totals for the full course.
College | Total Fees |
|---|---|
Rs. 5.20 Lakhs | |
DES Pune University, Pune (lateral entry, 3 years) | Rs. 6.96 Lakhs |
Christ University, Kengeri Campus, Bengaluru (Electronics and Computer Engineering with AI and ML) | Rs. 8.81 Lakhs |
Rs. 11.29 Lakhs | |
Rs. 13.20 Lakhs |
Here’s a simple way to read the numbers.
Rs. 5 to 7 lakh is the lower end, mostly at newer private universities.
Rs. 8 to 11 lakh is the middle range, including well-known private and university-run campuses.
Rs. 13 lakh and above is where the big private names sit.
Don’t pick only on price. A college with better labs and a good placement record can be worth the extra lakh or two.
The first two years are mostly core ECE. The AI and ML subjects come in later, though some colleges add a little programming early.
Years 1 and 2 (core ECE):
engineering maths and physics
programming in Python and C
analog and digital electronics
signals and systems
network theory and electromagnetic fields
60+ Years of Education Legacy | UGC & AICTE Approved | Prestigious Scholarship Worth 6 Crores
Scholars’ Round Deadline: 14th Nov’26 | Earn upto 50% merit Scholarship + 10% for top performers | EFMD Accredited | AACSB (USA) & AMDISA Member | Highest CTC 28 LPA
Years 3 and 4 (AI and ML side):
machine learning and deep learning
neural networks and computer vision
natural language processing
embedded systems and IoT
digital signal processing and VLSI
electives such as edge intelligence and AI in healthcare
a major project and an internship
MIT-WPU, for example, lists edge intelligence, deep learning architectures, and AR/VR among its focus areas. Always check the exact syllabus of the college you choose, since subjects differ from place to place.
Students often mix these up, so here is a quick view.
Regular BTech ECE is the widest. You can go into telecom, chips, embedded systems or software later.
BTech ECE with AI and ML keeps the hardware base but adds the AI skills to go with it.
BTech in Artificial Intelligence is mostly software, with little electronics.
If you like both circuits and code, the middle option fits well. If you only want to write code, a CSE or AI branch may suit you better.
This degree opens doors in both hardware and software companies. Common roles include:
Embedded AI engineer, working on smart devices and sensors
VLSI and chip design engineer
IoT and robotics engineer
signal processing or telecom engineer
Industries hiring for these include semiconductors, automotive, healthcare devices, telecom and consumer electronics. If you want to study further, an MTech in AI, VLSI or communication is a common next step.
There is no single number, because pay depends on your skills, projects and company. AI engineers with some experience average about Rs. 12 lakh a year, and machine learning engineers about Rs. 15.4 lakh. Freshers earn less to begin with, and a student who can show real projects often gets a better offer than one with only good marks.
Yes, if you like electronics and want AI skills that work with real hardware. The branch is still young, so look at labs, faculty and placement history before you pay. If the fees feel too high, a regular BTech ECE at a good college, plus self-study in Python and machine learning, is a smart cheaper path.
BTech ECE with AI and ML sits in a useful spot between hardware and software. It suits students who enjoy circuits and also want to work on intelligent devices. Compare two or three colleges on fees, syllabus and placements, then start learning Python in the first year. Small projects, like a gesture-controlled device or a simple image classifier, will help you more than marks alone.

You can explore M.Tech AI and ML colleges and fees details here: https://engineering.careers360.com/colleges/list-of-artificial-intelligence-and-machine-learning-colleges-in-india?degree=6&stream=1&branch=588
You can pursue B.Tech in Robotics, Automation or Mechatronics after Class 12 with PCM. Admission depends on the university and may be through JEE Main or merit.
For example, Galgotias University offers B.Tech in Robotics and Mechatronics, so these can be good options to explore if you're interested in automation
Hi,
Yes, you can still join BE/BTech through KCET counselling. Since you officially discontinued your B.Sc Agriculture seat, submitted the discontinuation letter, and got your TC/documents back without penalty, you are generally eligible to participate in KCET counselling again.
KEA mainly creates issues when students block seats and do not
If you're specifically looking for B.E./ B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering (not Aeronautical Engineering) , it's worth considering LPU as well. Aerospace Engineering is a broader field that covers the design, development, testing, and maintenance of both aircraft and spacecraft , including satellites, rockets, and space exploration systems, whereas Aeronautical
